Once I start taking antibiotics how long does it take to relieve pain? Can I expect any improvemen in 2 days?

I have been taking an antibiotic for two days now but there seem to be no improvement. I am just wondering if this is the wrong medicine for my problem, or it just takes some time for it to take effect.
Would appreciate responses from MD or based on similar experience..
Just to clarify, I am taking antibiotics against gum infection which also causes pain…
